Friday 18th April, a people's march under the organisation of the Sikh Sangarsh Committee, is due to leave from the Akal Takht in Amritsar. The Committee was set up to demand the release of political prisoners who have served their sentences but are not being granted their permanent release. However, the Punjab Police have placed Baba Baljeet Singh Dhaduwal (one of the main leaders of the Committee) and his followers under arrest in the Janthali Sar Sahib Gurdwara in Bathinda.

Principal Parvinder Singh Khalsa has led the remaining Committee members and the Sangat to the Akal Takht, where he has announced that the protest march will take place unaffected by the authorities attempts to derail it.
