EMPOWERING AND EDUCATING SIKHS IS NOW CONSIDERED A THREAT TO THE INDIAN STATE .....

Our India team has been informed by the families supported by SOPW, that the Indian NIA (National Investigation Agency) has been conducting house-to-house investigations in the Amritsar district. We recently reported that our volunteers in India were being questioned and forced to travel to from Punjab to Delhi to help with the NIA inquiry. This is the second time within a year there has been a thorough NIA investigation into the operations of SOPW - a UK registered charity operating to standards set by the British Government.

The Indian State uses many tools to hinder, discredit or prevent the work of an organisation. SOPW is of the view that this current investigation aims simply to harass our workers and prevent us from empowering the families we support to achieve self-sufficiency and ultimately....success.

As you can imagine, the families are going through a very anxious time in the absence of the breadwinner and these constant visits by the NIA, questioning the support they are receiving from SOPW, is adding to the strain they are under.

SOPW’s support lifts families out of poverty by funding the cost of all aspects of children’s education, medical aid to cover illnesses, provides clean drinking water pumps, house repairs, care of the elderly and provides the means to earn a living and become self-sufficient for the future.

We would like our readers to think about which of these charitable activities is creating a threat to peace in India, or is it, that empowering and educating Sikhs is now an anti-state activity?
