Today SOPW's founder Balbir Singh Bains, met with David Lelliott OBE, the British Deputy High Commissioner for Northwest India.

Mr Lelliott is based in Chandigarh but on his current visit to the UK, a meeting was co-ordinated by Dr Jasdev Singh Rai to discuss pressing Sikh issues.

There were a number of points that Balbir Singh raised with particular concern to SOPW. One of them was the on going NIA investigation into the work of SOPW in India. This involves the harassment of our team of volunteers based in India and also the interviewing of family members of the prisoners which is causing further distress where there is already much heartache.

The Deputy High Commissioner assured SOPW that he is very informed of the work of our Charity, which is registered here in the UK. More importantly, he said he was also aware of the issues we are facing with the Indian Government. David Lelliott is willing to meet with our SOPW India team and will listen and provide advice where he can. The meeting ended on a positive note and we look forward to our next meeting with David Lelliott.
