FIVE SINGHS ACQUITTED IN CONNECTION WITH FALSE CHARGES OF THE SHINGAR CINEMA BOMB BLAST

On 28 January 2014, in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Court of Session Judge, Neelam Arora, five Singhs were acquitted from criminal offense charges. In 2010, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Police had falsely charged them with allegedly conspiring in terrorism related activities. The five are Giani Parshotam Singh, Harminder Singh, Gurpreet Singh Khalsa, Prabhdyal Singh and Dharminder Singh.

Advocate Ajit Singh Sian and A.K. Sareen fought their case but the Police could not produce any definite proof against these people, which led to the collapse of the case. It is worth pointing out that these five were arrested on the basis of an ‘anonymous’ tip off received by the police.

SOPW have been supporting these Singhs since their arrest and although Prabhdyal Singh and Dharminder Singh were released on bail after a year in prison, Parshotam Singh, Harminder Singh, and Gurpreet Singh are still lodged in Nabha Maximum Security prison. As per the usual practise by the corrupt police system, they have a number of other cases pending against them, designed to make them further languish in jail. SOPW will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with them until their names are cleared.
